Day 54: Silence is golden
It’s Adventure Day!
Today’s Activity: Have a silent movie screening and DJ your own soundtrack.
Silent movies are always more fun to watch with a group. I’ll never forget the time we saw the original Zorro movie, 1920’s The Mark of Zorro, in a huge movie palace with live organ accompaniment. There were hundreds of people cheering the good guys and hissing at the bad guys and it’s possibly the most fun I’ve ever had at a film screening. Also Zorro has the best alter-ego: by day, he’s a really tired guy.
Of course, you shouldn’t get together with a few hundred people right now, but you can still host a screening with housemates or friends online. Keep the original soundtrack, or take turns choosing your own audio. Lots of silent films are public domain and free to watch online. Here’s a list of a hundred to search for.
With the best silent movies, you’ll find you get caught up in the story and quickly forget there’s no dialogue.
