Camp Day 23: Avian Neighbors
Highlights from one of the best bird livestreams ever: NRK’s “Piip-Show”, a birdfeeder designed to look like an Oslo coffee shop.
It’s Self Care day!
Today’s Activity: Get to know your neighborhood birds.
Birdwatching is fun, free, relaxing and educational — and you can do it from the comfort of your living room. And research suggests it’s good for your mental health.
We’ve had lots of visitors to our birdfeeder this week: chickadees grabbing a single seed at a time, surprisingly aggressive nuthatches, flickers (huge!), juncos that sound like laser gun battles, flocks of a dozen or so tiny bushtits that arrive as little twittering clouds.
If you have a birdfeeder, this post is an interesting read on how to observe the power struggles going on between the visiting birds.
We may be home, but the birds are going about their business. It’s spring, so keep an eye out for nests!
